"Hail" Challah...?

As some of you may know it was Yom Kippur on Saturday, and my synagogue is the craziest. "Now reach your hands to the Challah" says my Rabbi, now, the rabbi is up on the bema (spelt right, sounds like I spelt) and it is a "custom" for everyone to touch the Challah when its prayer is being said, but since we were far away the rabbi said reach, and then it looked like we were hailing "the mass killer." Very funny
